With the KLARA POS system and payment terminals, there are several ways to accept tips. Each option has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Important:
- The tip function must first be activated on the POS; by default, the function is deactivated.
- Go to the settings to activate the function; this can only be done with an admin profile.
- The function is available in both Retail and Gastro modes.
- If you have multiple POS systems, the tip function must be activated separately on each POS.
Tips with Unconnected Payment Terminal or Payment Terminal without POS
With one or more unconnected payment terminals (with or without POS), the shopping cart amount is entered directly on the payment terminal. The customer then has the option to select a tip amount.
Via KLARA Support, you can optionally preconfigure various tip options (in CHF and/or %) or simply allow a free tip entry—the decision on what the customer sees here is entirely up to you:
If you use only a standalone payment terminal and no POS system, the sale is completed at this point.
If you use the KLARA POS system: On the KLARA POS, you can manually enter the tip amount selected by the customer on the payment terminal.
At checkout, there are predefined amounts and the option to enter a custom tip amount:
In this example, we will add a 5 CHF tip to the shopping cart amount of 57.50 CHF, which is displayed accordingly above.
Once the customer has paid on the payment terminal, you can complete the sale on the POS as usual and reach the confirmation screen, where the shopping cart amount, tip amount, and total amount are displayed again:
Tips with the KLARA POS System – Connected Payment Terminal
With the KLARA POS system, you can also collect tips with one or more connected payment terminals.
If a payment terminal is connected to the POS, the checkout screen looks slightly different: there is no tip input field because the tip amount is entered directly by the customer on the connected terminal and automatically transmitted back to the POS. Manual entry is therefore not necessary.
On the POS, you complete the transaction as usual by pressing the green button at the bottom right:
The customer sees the shopping cart amount displayed on the payment terminal and has the option to give a tip. You can preconfigure the tip options—you decide what the customer sees here:
Once the customer has paid, the sale is automatically completed on the POS:
Tip Reports
If tips are manually entered on the POS for unconnected payment terminals and/or connected payment terminals are used, the collected tips are automatically broken down by time and employee.
Note: If you use a standalone payment terminal without a POS or do not manually enter tips on the POS, no reports will be generated!
To access tip reports, go to the tip page via the navigation bar:
As an admin, you can see the tips of all employees:
- You can filter by time period and employees at the top right
- At the bottom right, the total of all tips for all selected employees within the chosen time period is displayed
- The view can also be sorted via the header row
Additionally, admins see tips in the daily journal clearly displayed in their own column:
Note: Tips are not displayed in the cash register journal in the KLARA web version. The total amounts will therefore differ!
In the detail view of a specific payment, tip amounts are displayed separately at the bottom:
As an employee, you only see your own tips:
- You can filter by time period at the top right
- At the bottom right, the total of your own tips for the chosen time period is displayed
- The view can also be sorted via the header row
